The Pursuit for What Matters | To Me

Meet Mr Impractical

August 4, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Just a short update today, it’s been a tough day sort of. I was about to end work when a friend called me and asked if I could help him buy a new TV and transport / install it. I had been looking forward to a nice chill afternoon at home, especially when the weather today (waaaarm and really thunderstorm-thick) had given me a light headache.
Nevertheless, I always find it hard to say no when I’m asked to help out (maybe that’s why I was asked??) so of course I agreed.

Off we went and after some dealing we had a huge TV in a box to load in my car. Nothing special really, still it was a 40inchwideHDdigital100HZtextblablablaLCD. You know.

(The transporting/carrying/dragging/fighting that box/playing with all that bubble plastic-part of this pointless story is boring beyond imagination so I’ll save you it and fast-forward to the installing instead. You don’t have to thank me for this, I know you are grateful!)

After pulling cables and setting up the antenna, we unfortunately had to realize the digital signal at his place was too weak so we never had anything but stupid static to watch. I guess we need an antenna amp as well… did we have one at hand?? Guess once. Gaaah

By then the weather was getting even worse, just like my headache… I had no other option but excuse myself and return home. We’ll have to continue tomorrow or so.
Okay, I hear some of you say “why didn’t he install the TV by himself”. You see, there are practical persons. There are impractical persons. And then there’s my friend. He’s beyond impractical. A really good friend, a good theorist but amazingly impractical when it comes to handiwork. After all these years we’ve known each other he still sometimes manage to surprise me with his total lack of seeing what’s so obvious. I guess we all have different skills in life.

On my way home I stopped and bought pizza, I haven’t done THAT in ages! Sometimes we make our own pizza, that’s really delicious, the takeaway pizza is too… cheesy? Yeah there’s too much cheese on it for my taste. Today was definitely an exception… and as such it was okay.

And now something completely different…
The blog nuking seem to continue. In case that’d happen to me I’ve set up two backups, one on WordPress, one on Nibblebit. Feel free to bookmark them if you feel like it.

That’s it for now I guess.

It wasn’t so bad. Just almost.

August 3, 2009 · 3 Comments

I’m back home again after my first day at work after the vacation. Honestly it wasn’t so bad after all. Learning my lesson from previous attempts (read: mistakes) I had two alarms set for my wakeup… both placed far from my bed. Far enough to be out of reach from under the cover that’ll say. I know you won’t believe me on this but I actually woke up by the first one! Isn’t it amazing??
Furthermore, with a few minutes to spare I even did succeed in showing up at work on time. What about that?? Maybe I need to work on my margins a little bit, nevertheless I stayed on the right side of them. That IS what counts right? :-)

In the early hours driving to work a huge wild boar crossed the road in front of me. Luckily for us both the margins were on the positive side here as well. Hitting one of those (especially one THAT beefy) probably would result in serious troubles. I’ve been told they get darn angry when injured.
In my car I have a little fluorescent marker to be used when having an accident involving wildlife. On it it’s printed some wise instructions, and it specifically says you’re not to stop at the exact location after a collision with wolves, wolverines, bears… and wild boars. I guess it says so for a reason…

Work itself wasn’t that thrilling, pretty much as expected I have to say. I endured my time there… and I probably yawned more or less constantly till lunch break. So what. It was first day after vacation. That’s life. I met my ever so amazing friends at work, they sure made my day alright. Talking, laughing, comparing vacation disasters.

I guess work wasn’t so bad after all. Maybe I’ll go there tomorrow as well??
Let’s see about that eh ;)

I made it!!

August 2, 2009 · 5 Comments

I’m so impressed by myself, my own will of determination is… simply extreme!!
This morning I finally managed to drag myself out of bed. Not only out of bed, out of bed in time. No alarms turned off in my sleep, no snoozing. Nothing. What about that?! :D

That amazing achievement was celebrated with a nice little bike tour. Today the bikes got loaded to the car and we hit the outer parts of the city for an hour or two. Actually it was quite fun.

As usually, here are a few impressions from that tour;

First we came across this car. Nice licence plate, don’t you say?? lol

My bike is enjoying the view. And no, our local horizon isn’t tilting, okay…

Crossing the little canal

The city hall across the water. You can actually climb that tower, until recently there was only a low fence stopping ppl from falling over. Of course someone eventually had to take a leap so nowadays a visit to the tower gives you that “bird in a cage feeling”…

That’s it for now I guess.

Little did I know…

…where I were about to end up today. At the Pride Festival! It was fun, it was crazy! According to the news there were about 30.000 ppl in the parade and 350.000 spectators. Pretty impressing!
Here are a few glimpses from the parade as it passes through the downtown areas of Stockholm, Sweden.

Crapppp! Overslept!!

August 1, 2009 · 4 Comments

My day didn’t start that great.

You see I’m getting closer the end of my vacation and after five weeks off it’s easy to get some habits… nocturnal habits… like sleeping late. So now when having the end of vacation in sight, the last days I’ve been trying to work that little nice habit off. Well the task isn’t actually that rough, it’s only about setting the alarm for a (reasonable) wakeup in the mornings. I do mean reasonable, the vacation isn’t over quite yet so I’m not intending to overdo this mission of mine.

For this morning the alarm had been set for 7.30. That also would provide me with some opportunity for snoozing if needed :) Damnit I totally blew it!! Somehow (I know the alarm was turned on, I carefully checked that last night) I turned that silly clock off in my sleep and slept till 9… 9ish actually. ¤#@@!!¤¤!!@!!!

Crapppp how will I even be able to wake up in time on Monday morning???? As for now I see only one option, not going to bed on Sunday night at all! Somehow I suspect my boss won’t be that supportive in that decision though. I gotta come up with a better plan here….

Anyway the plan for this day is a visit to the city. The weather isn’t the best, there’s a covering greyish cloudlayer and like 16-17C… we had some rain last night as well. So why not make a trip to the city and cruise around the shops downtown? :)
Eventhough the city isn’t that far, by car it’s like a 40min drive when there’s no traffic blocking my advances, I rarely do this trip. Honestly I haven’t been to the city for the entire summer, and there’s no reason why really. I’ve been busy elsewhere, and whenever I need to go shopping, for a dinner out, the movies whatever, I can find it elsewhere.
Heyy… am I getting lazy? Yeah probably. And tired in the mornings!!

For my wakeup tomorrow morning (my final dress rehearsal!!) I definitely will set TWO alarms.
I have to :(
